In Attendance: Bill Bode, Robert Duchemin, Robert Duchemin, Jan Booher
Bill Bode Called the meeting to order at 7:25pm
1. Our Place in the Web of Life: Jan will email Sabine regarding the serving of a green meal for the Green Sanctuary Class on November 23rd, since she had spoken to Doug and Aiva Drummond. Doug and Aiva, if you see this email, please let us know if you have a planned menu. Many of us are willing to help prepare dishes to bring. We expect that there will be a maximum of 15 people.
We looked at Lesson 5, and Martha and Jan will adapt the lesson plan to our group’s needs. We will include the summary of our analysis work that didn’t have time to do in the last class. As it stands, Martha thinks the lesson plan is creepy and Robert feels that the atonement piece of it is too Catholic.
There is a curriculum evaluation sheet in the lesson plan. Bill Bode will make copies of the evaluation plan.
2. Meeting Requirements of Certification
Jan will begin entering information in the Google Doc Assessment page.
3. Grant:
There is an EPA Grant specifically for faith based groups, and 501©3 organizations working on Environmental Justice to do educational outreach to vulnerable communities on effects of climate change. The following scholars have expressed an interest in working with us if we go for the grant: Keren Bolter (PhD Geosciences-mapping expert, currently working for the South Florida Regional Planning Council), Deborah Kerr, MA (Public Health professional currently affiliated with FAU Center for Environmental Sciences); and Emily Eisenhower, PhD or PhD candidate at FIU’s RISEP (Social and Environmental Justice expert).
We decided to pursue the grant application. Jan will blind copy Martha, Bill and Robert on developmental communications and initial grant narrative. Others can be added to the copy list if they notify Jan.
The grant app is due December 15th to the Office of Environmental Justice Small Grants Application. All questions must be submitted by December 5th.
4. The Climate Action Coalition of South Florida is growing. You are invited to attend.
The next meeting will have Mitch Chester presenting Raising Fields: a presentation about the effect of sea level rise on agriculture.www.RaisingFields.org.
Also on the Agenda will be the Municipalities Tookit for people who want to approach their municipal leaders about signing the Mayor’ Climate Action Pledge. The meeting will be at the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation in Lake Worth, 1028 N. Federal Highway at 5pm, Tuesday, November 11th.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45pm.
