Present were: Bill Bode, Robert Duchemin, Sabine Engle, Jan Booher, Martha Nungesser
The meeting was called to order at 7:15pm
Sea Level Rise Survey: reported that the Letter of Inquiry to the Florida Humanities Council did not result in a request to file for a grant for the Sea Level Rise Survey. Without funding, however, Keren Bolter (FAU Center for Environmental Studies) has prepared a questionnaire for Palm Beach County residents that is available at this link: Http://goo.gl/ms7S48
Please take the survey & distribute it to your friends, colleagues, and neighbors.
Ways to get the word out about Green Sanctuary
1. Sabine and Martha have prepared the first article for the Unicorn. We will try to have a monthly article.
2. Sabine has started a scrap book. Anyone who has pictures of Green Sanctuary activities is asked to email them to Sabine or Martha, or bring them to the Fellowship.
3. Martha reported that she spoke to the RE class last week about Green Sanctuary. She stressed to the children that they are welcome to get involved with Green Sanctuary.
4. Bill Bode will meet with the Forum to discuss what the Green Sanctuary Team is doing.
5. Bill Bode will discuss the possibility of working Kimberly Fisher and others on the outreach film series on environmental topics. The South Florida Rising Seas film will be shown as part of the DocMiami Film Festival at Sugar Sands Park in Boca Raton on September 13th.
6. Possible Spring Second Sunday class could be about the materials and environmental concerns related to the capital campaign discussion.
7. Martha will begin a list of books for UU Book Clubs that are in various genres, but have environmental themes.
Investigation of Environmental Concerns Related to Capital Campaign Discussion
1.. Martha will check Angie’s List to see if any companies specialize in environmentally friendly flooring. Jan will internet surf to find if there are samples available. Robert will call Mary Cadwell to see if she has any material samples that can be used indoors or contacts who can provide information about environmentally friendly materials.
2. Martha has located a company that installs blown-in insulation, and will investigate its environmental friendliness. R-16 is 30cents/sq ft, and R-30 is 40 cents/sq ft. Removing old insulation is 90 cents/sq ft.
- Martha will send email to people in the room regarding the evangelical Christian involvement in supporting the EPA Regulation of carbon dioxide.
- There was a discussion of the growth in the Climate Action Coalition. Climate Lobby and 350.org are interested in cooperative efforts. 350.org is going to have Miami based activities associated with the September 21st All Peoples March on the UN.
Our Place in the Web of Life
