To save their posh retirement home, former opera stars plan a gala recital — until the biggest diva among them refuses to sing. This movie is directed by Dustin Hoffman. QUARTET is based on the true story of how [the Italian opera composer] Verdi bequeathed his mansion to retired musicians because, in their prime, some had played at La Scala but now couldn’t pay the rent.
