As we enter a new year, it’s time to look forward and reimagine the future of UUFBR. Our beloved congregation has been a spiritual home for so many of us, a place where we find meaning through our shared volunteer efforts and commitment to Unitarian Universalist values. But if UUFBR is to thrive, we need a renewed sense of purpose. We need to answer the fundamental questions: Who are we? Where are we going? Why is UUFBR here?
This is why we are launching the Vision & Mission Workshop—an opportunity for all members to come together and shape the future of UUFBR. It’s a chance to reflect on what unites us as a community and articulate the values that will guide us forward.
Why Now?
A Vision Statement asks, “Where do we see ourselves in five years?” It’s been far too long since we asked this question as a congregation. It’s time to dream big and imagine what a thriving UUFBR could look like in the years to come.
Meanwhile, a Mission Statement asks, “How do we want to be known in the larger community?” It challenges us to define what makes UUFBR unique and how we live out our values in the world.
These two statements together define who we are, where we’re going, and how we’ll get there. They’re the foundation for everything we do as a congregation, from our worship services to our social justice initiatives.
Why Your Participation Matters
Crafting these statements is not just an intellectual exercise; it’s a deeply spiritual one. It’s about coming together as a “Beloved Community in training” and committing to the values that unite us. Yes, WE WON’T AGREE on every aspect of Unitarian Universalism—its intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and action-oriented expressions—but that’s part of what makes us strong.
The real challenge is to find it within ourselves to embrace this diversity. Can we practice tolerance that grows into acceptance, acceptance that blossoms into appreciation, and appreciation that leads to gratitude? If we can, we’ll be stronger for it. But this only happens if each of us is willing to show up and share our vision.
Get Involved
We invite every member of UUFBR to participate in this process. Whether you’re a year-round member. a snowbird, or a friend of the Fellowship, your voice matters. Here’s how you can get involved:
- In-Person Vision & Mission Meetings: Join us in the Turner Room on 1/5, 1/19, and 1/26.
- Zoom Meetings: Participate every Monday night from the comfort of your home.
- Vision & Mission Workshop: Save the date for February 8th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This hybrid event will include small group discussions, a shared lunch, and a collective drafting session.
This is your chance to help shape the future of UUFBR. Let’s come together to create a vision and mission that reflects the best of who we are and the potential of what we can become. Together, we can ensure that UUFBR continues to thrive for generations to come.
